In one of the Hofburg’s periodic attempts to enliven a visit to the rather dreary state apartments, an exhibition has been running since mid-October offering an interesting vision of the luxury and splendour enjoyed by Austria’s imperial family. Through photographs of the various summer villas, palaces and hunting lodges, visitors are presented with a behind-the-scenes view of Empress Elisabeth’s favourite haunts. This show is strictly for monarchic nostalgics.

Housed in the ICAIC building, this large, well-kept cinema shows some of the best films in Havana. It specialises in arty offerings, although major premières have also been held here. The foyer has an exhibition of posters advertising some of the great Cuban films from the decades since the Revolution. Posters and videos of the best Cuban films of the last 40 years are on sale on the fourth floor.

Roni Size Reprazent
12 04 2010With a new album, ‘In The Mode’ to promote, Roni Size and Reprazent return to Japan for the first time since their appearance at the Fuji Festival in July. On the new album the group exhibit a more hardcore edge than on the Mercury award-winning ‘New Forms’ that preceded it, and lacks the instant appeal of that classic album. But give it a chance and it grows on you with strong contributions from such luminaries as Method Man, Rahzel and Zach De La Rocha.

Jeff Foxworthy
9 02 2010Jeff Foxworthy may have once dreamed of becoming a preacher, but instead he followed his true calling, using his speaking skills to preach laughter rather than morals. In a triumph of what he terms ‘a glorious absence of sophistication’, Foxworthy’s schtick consists primarily of playing fun with the good ol’ country bumpkins found in his own Southern backyard of Atlanta, Georgia. Since his rise to stardom, Foxworthy claims that redneckery has become a universal trait, hence his worldwide appeal.
